Apartment, check

Woke up this morning and went to check out a room for rent in Sherman Oaks. The pictures on Craig's List were promising, the rent was great deal, but the last hurdle was to meet the apartment's owner.

That shouldn't have been an issue, right?

Guide to subletting a room in your apartment Rule #1: I don't care how much you like weed or sell weed or enjoy typing the word "weed", Febreeze your apartment before you show it to a potential renter. It smelled like a Jamaican Bar-B-Que.

But, by the end of the day I found a place to stay in Burbank near the studios. Huzzah.

Writing update: Finishing touches on the HIMYM spec, and I gotta say, writing outside is amazing. I know LA air is supposed to suck, but frankly I enjoyed the fresh summer breeze.

Recommended: Tiger Woods, Flight of the Conchords, Ralph's Chicken Caesar Sandwich.

BLOG CHANGE UPDATE: Starting tomorrow I'm gonna focus less on random events in my life and gonna focus on writing funny stuff. Hopefully my friends reading this can tell me if the shit I post is actually funny. I think it'll help me out. Thanks.

Oof.

The timezone difference is starting to catch up on me. It's 10pm Eastern right now, and days full of apartment hunting leave me tired by 7pm here. Long story short...I'm pooped all the time.

Might have an apartment to move into tomorrow, but that depends on whether or not the guy living there fits yesterday's murderer profile. I hope not - it's a good price and location. Really want to find a place to live so I can concentrate on writing.

To do: Finish final draft of HIMYM spec. Murder Doc Rivers and frame Kobe.

He was quiet, but he seemed nice

You hear it from neighbors of serial killers all the time. After a day of apartment hunting, I now understand why.

The current tenants of two of the three apartments with rooms to rent that I visited today fit that description to a tee. I'm sorry, 50 year-old Middle-Eastern guy and 20-something dude with tatoos and crazy eyes, but I think I'll pass. The search continues in about an hour when I check out the last apartment of the day.

Sherman Oaks seems nice enough, minus the post-op trans-sexual guy/gal with full beard, half dreadlocks and a "Princess Power" sticker on his laptop sitting across from me at the library. Plenty of things to do, restaurants, etc. and a lot quieter than West Hollywood.

[Unrelated note: Popeye's Chicken is the absolute best fast food chicken in the world.]

Writing update: Trying to put the finishing touches on my HIMYM script, but it's hard to focus here at the Sherman Oaks Public Library. Tomorrow I'm gonna go somewhere quiet and slam out the rest of this baby, then start on a 30 Rock spec.

Close your eyes and imagine Hell on Earth.

You've just imagined Needles, California.

It was 110 degrees, no cell-phone reception and gas cost $5.29 a gallon. $5.29 a gallon. USA! USA! USA!

Despite my trek through the barren wasteland that is Western Arizona/Eastern California, I made it to LA tonight with only two dead-stop traffic jams and had In-And-Out in my stomach by 9:00. Not bad.

Staying with an ND guy and his buddy for now, but tomorrow I begin my quest for housing and employment (in no particular order). They went to a hotel party near LAX tonight, but I think OD-ing on coke my first night here would be cliche, so I'm taking it easy and working on my HIMYM spec.

Finally, this movie looks pretty good. Sam Rockwell is great, for proof, check him out in "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind".

I am a writer. This is my font.

Tomorrow I leave Little Rock for Hollywood via Albuquerque. Two twelve hour drives in two days. Funzo.

This is my first post. I'm writing this blog for two reasons:

Uno- I have to write everyday.
B- My immediate future, while definitely not unique to Hollywood, is remotely interesting to my friends and family.

One last note: The aerial shot proceeding and the opening credits of "Dawn of the Dead" (the one with Ving Rhames not the George Romero one from the 80's) rock. Anytime you start with a sweet helicopter shot of a gas station exploding and follow that up with a montage of news clips, stock footage, etc. of a zombie uprising with Johnny Cash in the background...awesome.

Johnny kicks in around :30 -- enjoy.
